Hipster Chicken Keeping

Hipster or not, I am a backyard chicken keeper.  I love so many things about keeping chickens. I love the lessons learned about taking care of animals, nutrition and where food comes from as well as empathy for animals. Chicken keeping is therapeutic for me. It brings me peace. But, there is work involved and chicken keeping in the winter is not always fun. I have a new post up at Community Chickens titled Snow, Chickens and Hipsters.  This is all about my latest adventure of chicken keeping in the frozen land of Michigan as well as recent opinions on hipster chicken keepers.

This is my kick off, my very first “letter”. I have been rolling around this idea in my head for awhile now. My very first blog over on blogger was a little more fun to write. I shared recipes, made crafts, but I also rambled on about different things in my life. I miss that and so the Letters page is born.  (more…)

Recipe Countdown 2013… Finale

For the month of December I have been counting down my most popular recipes of the year. It has been fun to revisit my recipes all the goodies. I had a blast putting them together. Some were big hits with my family, some with my friends, some only with pinterest, but I liked each and every one of them. Today’s recipe was a hit with all of the above. Spaghetti Salad… Recipe Countdown 2013

This has been my first year blogging from my very own ” .com”.  Moving over from my rambling blogger blog, was so exciting. My wonderful Aunt Brenda helped me to set it all up. Thank you Aunt Brenda!  This year, I have made new friends, entertained old ones and throughout kept my family well fed. Even if I had to photograph the food before they could eat it. Not too bad a trade off, I hope.  Blogging has been a great learning experience. I found that I love writing as much as I love reading. I am pretty much in love with words and language. Pretty nice for someone who makes her living in an elementary school library and literacy support program. (more…)

Banana Split Pie… #SundaySupper has got you covered

Thanksgiving has been packed away. The Christmas decorations are in full force at my house. The tree is trimmed and stockings are hung. It is one of my most favorite times of year. I love the hustle and bustle of the Holiday season. We try to hit all the parties and see everyone that we can. Then there is the baking. I love to bake for my family and friends during the Holiday season. Cookies, cakes, bread puddings… just to name a few. Sometimes, you need a quick dessert, something you can throw together, a no-bake kind of pie to take with you to a last minute potluck. I have just the pie for you. (more…)
